THE OPERATING MANUAL
One of the franchisor’s obligations is to make its know-how available to the franchisee.
This provision is generally formalized in a manual called the “Operating Manual”.
Or “Know-How Guide”, “Book”, “Process”, even “Bible”.
The operating manual shall include all the elements relating to the franchisor’s know-how:
– how to find a location
– premises specifications
– work schedule
– pre-opening communications
– point-of-sale operating guide
– processes specific to the activity, the business sector…
The manual is designed to enable a newcomer to the business, unfamiliar with the concept, to become a “Super Franchisee”.
The manual is available in paper or digital format, and often includes video links.
It must remain confidential.
